libreadline changes are slightly annoying for Ruby developers. I don’t fault the system package manager, necessarily. I don’t understand why Ruby insists on dynamic linking to specific versions of everything (just link statically! and while you’re at it, produce a native version manager that isn’t terrible like rbenv, rvm or chruby).

But then again, I’m tired of a lot of the poor tooling around Ruby, so this might just be the kick I need to commit to properly using the Docker images we already use in production.

So, in summary, slight annoyance with the package changes, but really I’d call it a symptom of dreadful Ruby tooling. It doesn’t seem to affect anything else, but be forewarned if you use your system for Ruby work.
